I feel very lucky that my job as a Publisher Rep allows me the chance to travel across beautiful British Columbia on a regular basis. One of my most favourite recent work trips brought me to historic Trail in the stunning Kootenay Region in the BC interior.
One evening on my drive back to my hotel, I noticed a stunning mural painted on the side of the local arena while crossing the iconic Trail bridge. Further investigations led to a wonderful discovery. The city is home to a series of murals painted by artists Tyler Toews and Steven Skolka of Canadian Murals. The murals depict important events in the city’s history, including a project called River Connect, that celebrates the mighty Columbia River and our duty to protect and enjoy it for centuries to come. I took the photo above of a small section of the River Connect mural (I needed a wider lens!!) and you can find the rest of the sections on my photo website. I was amazed at the incredible scope and size of Tyler and Steven’s canvas, and struck by the gorgeous mix of colour and story that so proudly boasts Trail’s history writ large.
If you would like to witness all of the wonderful Trail murals first hand, please watch this video or read more about the stories behind each mural here. And if you would like to learn more about Tyler and Steven’s incredible murals that grace buildings across Canada, please visit them on their website. Life certainly is a great big canvas!
