Card 4No, this is not a story about the wonderful children’s book by Maurice Sendak (but wouldn’t that be awesome?). It IS a short story about one of my most favourite things I have been lucky to experience while living here in Alberta. Whenever I get a chance to take the picturesque 1A from my home in Cochrane up into the mountains, I am always on the look out for the beautiful wild horses that roam free around the settlement of Morley. Sometimes they can be found in the fields next to my favourite muse, the Morley Church, and I am in awe. On other occasions I can see them running like the wind along the plains that reach up into the mountains, manes flowing, spirits high.

I cannot explain why I am drawn to them and what the connection might be. Perhaps I should not even try. Last weekend I was fortunate enough to get close for a snap or two as a strategically placed salt block caught this pair’s attention just north of the Morley town site. I have tried many times this year to get a good photo of this majestic herd but they have proven skittish, as wild things tend to be. If you would like to see more from my brief moment of photographic awe, please pop over to my website. If you would like to learn more about the wild horses of Morley, please check out this site that tells the tale of Alberta’s wild horses through the eyes of local students. And finally, if you would like to download some holiday snaps like the one above, I have gathered them in a free gallery for you. Save a tree! Send an e-card from Awesome Alberta this year!
