On this day when Canada again wins Olympic Gold in hockey, can you imagine a better place to celebrate our game than on the ice at wondrous Lake Louise? I captured this snap last weekend and hoped that I would get a chance to use it before the end of the Sochi Olympics.
Today’s Canadian Men’s win was the cherry on the top of a spectacular two weeks of grit, heart and passion by Canadian (and all) athletes at Sochi. Perhaps the best moment for me was witnessing the Canadian women win hockey gold while surrounded by Alberta teachers at the Palliser conference in downtown Calgary on Thursday. As a former hockey goalie who grew up “playing with the boys” it was a special moment to see crowds forming around any screen showing the game, excited and cheering for women’s hockey. Women’s Hockey! While we all remember where we were for Sidney’s “Golden Goal” in 2010, I have a feeling Canadian hockey fans will always remember where they were when Team Canada won gold in Women’s Hockey in 2014.
This is our game still! Well done Canada!
And in case you have forgotten how awesome Canada was these past few weeks, here’s a reminder. Enjoy eh?
