You might wonder what the title of this post means. I will get to that shortly. Patience dear reader! 🙂

I had intended to call this post “Where is Ringo?” as the photo above, taken at the base of Marble Mountain, Corner Brook, Newfoundland, reminds me a bit of the cover of the Abbey Road album. The Canadian version… I took this snap a week ago today on a work trip to one of my favourite places in the world, Newfoundland. It was my first time to the west coast (I have been to NL many times before, and have written about my adventures here and here…) and I cannot wait until my next visit! You are always greeted with uncommon warmth, good humour and a feeling that you should stay longer, and may stay forever!

Corner Brook is a stunningly gorgeous place! Circled by weathered mountains, the city is vibrant and welcoming. This is despite its penchant for snowy winters (Corner Brook is listed as the second snowiest location in Canada this year by Environment Canada). What would you expect from a city whose website lists a new and important feature called “Find My Snowplow“ where you can track in real-time where the city’s snow removal machines may be. Indeed, on my walk to the local high school, I had a hard time seeing over the drifts. And I’m not short! Seriously though, I can imagine living in this winter wonderland and had a very hard time leaving at the end of my short visit.

I must admit that on the sunny, wintry Saturday when I took the snap above, my head was a bit fuzzy. For a very good reason! I am at last a honourary Newfoundlander!  Friday night marked my Screech In ceremony where I got to kiss a cod, declare to the world the Newfie version of “live long and prosper…”May Your Big Jib Draw”, and promptly down some bold elixir called Screech. My resulting certificate (or new passport) proudly hangs on my office wall!  If you would like to learn more about this wonderful ceremony, visit here, and here.
