Lime green, not unlike Tangerine Orange, is my happy colour! When I saw this vibrant assortment of iconic Fiesta-ware at The Beaumont Antique Mill in picturesque Glen Williams Saturday, my day was made. Let me start at the beginning…
The day dawned bright and sunny – a perfect Saturday for the now famous “Jeep Adventure.” I was lucky to have company for this one – my friend Kelly and my sister Jen. Kelly is now an old hand at Jeep Adventures but this was Jen’s first and there could not be a better backdrop than the Halton Hills. We started our day in Glen Williams which is nestled just north of Georgetown, Ontario. I cannot recommend Glen Williams enough as a perfect day trip for those who live in the Greater Toronto Area. Not only is it picturesque and serene; Glen Williams is the home to many talented artisans (The Williams Mill Visual Art Centre), a delightful pub (The Copper Kettle), a bake shop (The Glen Oven Bakery and Cafe), a charming bookstore with comfy leather chairs (!) (Reeve and Clarke Books), and the eclectic Beaumont Mill Antiques Market where I found this fine collection of art-deco inspired Fiesta-ware in a rainbow of kitchy colours. First introduced in 1936 by The Homer Laughlin China Company of West Virginia, Fiesta-ware is known and well-loved for it’s art deco design and bright hues that have changed throughout this century to reflect the times. Each piece and colour uniquely tells the story of when it was made allowing this series to act as a vivid reminder of change over time. The historian in me loves this fact almost more than the happy hues!
We three intrepid day-adventurers also managed to make a short side trip to historic and equally lovely Belfountain, known for it’s Niagara Escarpment hiking trails, as well as an ice cream shop, lovely pub, coffee shop and country store. After soaking in the spring sun and doing some shopping, it was time to turn the Jeep back and head for home, content with enjoying a Saturday well-spent with dear friends. I cannot wait until our next adventure!
Nice! Love the colour!
Thanks Marian! Are you settled in out on The Sunshine Coast?
