My vacation to Manitoulin Island feels like an eternity ago as I hastily prepare to leave for a summer sales conference. You will forgive me for a brief post today with a promise to write at length upon my return about my favourite escape in Ontario – Manitoulin Island, or Spirit Island in Anishinaabemowin. Every summer for the past 8 years I have escaped the frenetic pace of Toronto to visit this peaceful sanctuary and my good friends, the Bain’s who summer in Dominion Bay, pictured above. It seems the moment I step on Manitoulin all of my world-weary cares slip away. Spirit Island indeed!
In my next post on Manitoulin I’ll walk you through some of the island’s history but this morning, I’ll leave you with one cool fact: Manitoulin Island is the home to the world’s largest island in a lake on an island in a lake. Say that 3 times fast!
