Biggar, Saskatchewan is a town after my own heart. Clever CN workers after a night on the town way back when came up with the pun-like slogan above for Biggar and it stuck. On a recent work trip I had the good fortune to arrive early on a Sunday, pick up a car and drive out into the vast, big-sky countryside west of Saskatoon. As it was the end of March, much of the land was various shades of grey, brown and yellow (wheat stubble) after a recent snow melt. The sky on this quiet Sunday was ice blue and the wind still a bit chilly. A great day for an adventure! I passed through small towns, many harbouring giant grain elevators that you could see coming for miles, with names like Asquith, Perdue, Biggar, Rosetown, Zealandia, Harris and Tessier. My midway point was Biggar where I stopped at a local haunt called Hannigan’s for the best cheeseburger EVER! And an Orange Crush. Did that taste ever bring back memories.
Along the way I took shots of the iconic Saskatchewan grain elevators, long-vacant churches and my favourite muse it seems, old abandoned cars. I found the one above just outside of Biggar. If you want to see more snaps from my Sunday in Saskatchewan, please click here.
Happy and safe long weekend everyone!
